LOST RIVER WESTBOURNE

London is not only a forest, it is full or rivers. The Thames is only the end of all these mysterious underground rivers, who once were babbling brooks in the middle of the countryside, they later became open sewers, were finally culverted and sadly forgotten… but….these rivers are actually alive and well, as there is no way to stop them!

They have mysterious names like the “Black Ditch”, the “Bollo Brook”, the “Cock and Pye Ditch” the “Earl’s Sluice” the “Effra” the “Wandle”, the “Tyburn” and of course the famous “Fleet”…

As part of this new series, I invite you to walk down with me along the River Westbourne in two parts, finding clues amongst our merry way downriver. You will discover many uncanny stories along our watery paved trail, I will show you where we can hear the river and even see it, and most of all of course, we will discover stories of people and places, how this infinite city grew and the secrets it has hidden just under the surface are waiting to be discovered!
